We often think leadership is complicated. We read books with tons of principles but then wonder how do we put these into action.
That’s why my teaching of positive leadership includes principles and practices.
Principles inform.
Practices transform.
In this spirit here are three practices you can do today to be a positive leader:
- Smile at Others. Yes it’s as easy as a smile. When you smile you produce more serotonin in your brain and the recipient of your smile also produces more serotonin. Just by smiling you are making someone feel better. No matter what your job, remember you are also a pharmacist dispensing positive energy and a positive leader impacting them in a positive way.
- Provide a Solution to a Problem. Positive leaders don’t complain and focus on problems. They focus on finding solutions to problems. Today identify one problem in your business, organization, family or the world and create a solution and plan to address the problem. This is how every great innovation, business and invention came about. Write down your problem. Think about the problem and possible solutions. Then write down the solution and action steps.
- Help Someone Get Better. Positive leaders help people grow to a level they wouldn’t achieve on their own. They do this by encouraging others, challenging them, listening to them, mentoring them and spending time with them. Today be intentional with your time and look to help someone get better today. This is how I now approach each day and I’ve learned the more you help others grow, you’ll grow.
The path to positive leadership is not hard. It just requires intention and action.
Simple actions lead to powerful results.
